University Students To Suffer Increased Fee Payment.
Guidance ongoing to stop the costly University Funding Model implemented by President William Ruto.
The new freshmen in Universities and TVET institutions are waiting to see their fate after the application of funds.
The application which closed in September 7, is yet to be classified and students are eagerly waiting to know their stand.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has filed a case to the High Court to stop the government funding.
The suit before the constitutional and Human Rights Division comes after the first years in universities and TVETs await for response.
The other petitioners are Boaz Waruku, Elimu Bora Working Group, and the Students Caucus.
The Government holds that;
With the new model of funding it will be cheaper than the previous model where the needy students were not considered.
Furthermore they say that individual students will be able to apply for both schorlaships and loans.
The categories of students classified as the vulnerable, extremely needy , needy and less needy.

Besides this categorization Prof. Magenta says that the old model for funding encompassed other payments that added on to the sum total for parents to pay.
First the vulnerable students will get 100% of the money applied for plus the schorlaship from the government.
Secondly the extremely needy students and the less needy will get 93%of the money they apply for.
Lastly the students who fall under the category of needy students will get 93% and the parents will pay 7% of the money .
In his words Prof Mugenda says that this new funding model will easen the burden parents face when taking students through the journey of education.
University fees charges in the new model.
Kisii University is the most expensive in studying bachelor of education arts Charging fees at 283,135 per year .
The Kirriemuir women’s University 82,350 with the cheapest in the degree .
Egerton University charges 214, 700 to study the bachelors degree in education arts.
Moi University will charge 244,800 as school fees for the school of arts education.
The fees is too high despite that the government is giving the loans and the schorlaships .
Finally the instutions for the Human rights are awaiting to receive the feedback whether the new funding model will come to a halt.
