200,000 unregistered candidates sat for KCPE exams
Mps questions about the excess candidates who sat the exams unregistered.
A total of 1,415,315 students registered for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education recently. The exams ended on 1 November.
The Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang says it’s the last KCPE to be administered.
Increased percentage of KCPE candidates compared to last year
The National examinations for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education ended in three days time.
The PS says, the ongoing tests will be Assessments and the outgoing KCPE just did away with the 8-4-4 system.
The Mps says, the government has plans to ensure a complete and 100% transition of students to the next level.
The Ps revealed that, 200,000 students sat exam without doing registration for the national examinations.
On the other hand, Kipsang explained that the high records follows the ministry call to allow all students to sit for the exams.
The last KCPE under 8-4-4 system administered
The PS added that, this phase was the last one to handle Kenya Certificate of Primary Education 8-4-4 system.
Anybody who failed to sit for KCPE exams in the past years had a chance to sit for it this year because it’s the last phase.

He also adds that the Ministry has run an analysis and there’s no issues for Grade 6 learners as they did their KPSEA examinations.

Therefore, they concluded that those who had not sat the previous years took the last opportunity to do their last KCPE.
The MPs rather showed concerns and questioned where the large group was before coming out in large numbers to sit for exams.
Unregistered candidates allowed to sit KCPE exams
The National Examination Council CEO David Njengere told the Committee that the numbers increased because this was actually the last opportunity.
The 200,000 unregistered candidates were allowed to sit their exams irregardless of their ages.
The candidature for KCPE recorded a sign increment of 13.74 Per Cent in 2023 compared to the year 2022.
