South Eastern Kenyan University Faces management issues
South Eastern Kenyan University is facing management issues after top administrative seats remain vacant for some time.
Top leadership vacant
The top positions including the Vice chancellor, the Deputy Vice chancellors and the chairperson of the university council have no occupants.
The tertiary University is now operating on autopilot means, since there is no any substantive occupants in months now.
In the absence of the top positions leaders Prof Francis Wachira who was the DVC in charge of administration and human resource,
Has been occupying four key positions in the University. That is, the VC and the three DVCs since April.
Treasury allocates Ksh.16bn to schools.
Uasu Seku chapter secretary Mboya Kivai says that it’s enough time since the university is facing administrative challenges.
Challenges experienced at the University.
The challenges make it harder for the University to make clear decisions on the daily running of activities.
Prof Wachira who is now holding four positions and acting as the Vice Chancellor is expected to work effectively because of the work load.
Uasu Seku Chapter Secretary Mr.Kivai pleads with President Ruto and the ministry of education to appoint the top managers.
This is simply to help the University run smoothly as the semester has already kick started.
He also adds that, 70%of the senior most positions are held by the University officials and this causes a confusion in the school.
In addition, the confusion brought by a mix up of leadership derails the core business of the University, because of anxiety.
The Uasu officials complains that, the staff is now working under fear since there’s no specific council to deal with staff welfares.
Uasu chairman Mr.Wahome pleads with President Ruto to intervene into the matter.
This is because the University council is not running as expected because of lack of top position leaders.
Parents asked to claim fee refunds from Universities.
He also complains that Seku staff has not received their increments pay in four years time, since July 2020.
