Parents asked to claim fee refunds from Universities
Parents who paid fee for their children’s admission can now claim a refund from the stated University.
Some Vice Chancellors are defying government directives over University funding and they are asking parents to pay.
Some Universities are being recorded asking parents to pay upto 70% of tuition fees regardless of their classification.
Government funds plan to cater for students who come from extremely poor and poor backgrounds.

The Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu directed that no university student shall be denied access to admission because of lack of fees.
On Friday, data from the University funding revealed that so far 109,000 students placed in university had applied for the government funds.
Students applied for scholarship, loans or both of them expect the government to pay the money on admission so that they may not miss a chance in the University.
Government funding to cater for poor students
Many students in Kenya come from humble backgrounds and the Helb loan alone may not be sufficient for both their school fees, rent money and upkeep.
Therefore it is so crucial when the government allows a categorized group to have the loans first.
Before everyone grumbling for loans that makes others miss it.
Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVETs) are also applying for the funding from the government.
This is simply to help them learn under conducive environment.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, has extended the scholarship and loans application upto October 7 this year.
This is to help students left out because of some issues apply for the funds effectively.
Safaricom and Mpesa have eased the application, since a student can apply for the loans at the comfort.
They can also check the statement and status of disbursement from the M-pesa, Helb mini App which is done online.
Therefore, parents who pay for the tuition fee, have themselves to blame, because of the government’s funding model to the students.
