Helb begins the disbursement of funds to first years. A total of 8.2 Billions Kenya shillings is already aside for the process.
Learners in both the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVETS) and University have started receiving their funds in the accounts.
First years receive funds from the government.
It has been months of pain after the first years goes throughout without the loans from Helb.
Which helps to improve their upkeep. Helb Chief Executive Officer Charles Ringera says the disbursement has started.
He says the loans, bursaries and scholarships are undergoing a release process under the New University Funding Model (NUFM).
The money is set to help 96,000 students in Public Universities and about 9,655 students in private universities.
He says the disbursement is a relief to students that are a category under the New Funding Model System.
The categories that includes the extremely needy, vulnerable, less vulnerable, and the needy helps in easy disbursement.

Furthermore, the delays in University Funding led the Ministry of Education to make schools allow registration without fees.
The funds are to be directed to the Institutions account number so that it can help boost the learning process of students.
The CEO Ringera says, the disbursed amount to the institutions account is going to cover first semester education.

Students”says the CEO Helb. He adds that, applications for first timers are ongoing till further notice from the government.

Moreover, the agency says it needs 10B from the Treasury inorder to assist in the processing of loans.
Under the Old Model, Helb funded needy students to an amount of between 35,000 to 60,000.
The average allocation has dropped from Sh 47,000 to Sh 37,000.
Therefore, students are advices to use their first time funds in a crucial manner following the tough economic times.
